To Live And Work In Spain
If you are looking for the right documents to live and work in Spain, then you will need a visa. However not everyone needs a visa to work and live in Spain. If you are from the European Union countries or from the European Economic Area, then you do not need any visa or special permit to be in Spain. This however does not include citizens from the newest European Union country, Croatia who still need a work permit and a visa to work and live in Spain.

Short-Term Visa
If you are planning to visit without working in Spain, you will need the short-term Schengen visa. This visa allows you a stay of between 90 and 180 days in Spain without work. There is an exception for residents of Canada. New Zealand, Australia and the U.S who instead of the short-term visa, need only the long-term visa and can stay for longer periods.
To get the short-term visa, visit the Spanish embassy in your country and fill an application. If your visa expires, you can renew the same at the foreigner’s office in your local area. Note that once you are in Spain with a short-term visa, you cannot change the status to that of a student, a resident or an employee.
Long-Term Visa
If you intend to live, work, study or do other businesses in Spain, then you will need a long-term visa. This does not apply to EU and EEU countries. You will also have to specify what your stay entails so that you can get the right long-term visa. The long-term Spanish visas are
- A visa allowing you to work and live in Spain (combined visa)
- Student visa that includes the duration of your study period
- Resident visa that allows you to reside in Spain
